1998 Founded
The business was originally established in 1998 in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded on the boutique sawmilling of old Macrocarpa shelter belt trees for construction and joinery timber. Despite initial success the business was closed in 2002 after a founding shareholder encountered difficulties whilst the business was expanding into the Radiata pine export trade to Australia and North America.
Photos of our early days in this business can be viewed on our Facebook page.
Re-launched
The business was re-established in Warkworth, in the beautiful winterless north.
Whilst it remained based on the original concept that was developed in Christchurch, critically the business was re-calibrated to stay out of the commodity based sawn timber trade and focus only on unique, high end, finished products.
Tui Creek today
Over 20 years since our founding we are a leading manufacturer of solid wood products sold throughout New Zealand and Australia.
The business is still based around boutique sawmilling of old Macrocarpa trees, although we have swapped the traditional bandsaws and planers for precision CNC and laser cutting machines.
Tui Creek has two manufacturing facilities, one in Auckland and one in Warkworth.
Digital Marketing
One of the most significant developments in our history has been establishing the business digitally, instead of operating through traditional wholesale/retail resellers.
Digital marketing ensures that our unique product range is quickly, effectively and consistently represented to the highest standard possible to all customers across New Zealand and Australia.
- Our customers deal direct with the manufacturer
- Online shopping is instant and global
- Online operates in real time and 24/7
- Updates are communicated instantly
- Fast and effective search tools
- Online shopping is increasingly regulated and very reliable
We no longer sell our products through traditional big box hardware/homeware stores because critically - our focus on high quality products does not meet their lowest price market focus - and in our experience chain stores are ineffective at conveying our passion for the business.
The prudence of these changes that were made very early on has since been confirmed by the recent Covid pandemic, where traditional big box home/hardware stores were effectively forced to remain closed for the most part of two years.
Our customers are our best sales people
Don't take our word for it. Our customers are our best salespeople and their feedback posted via the product listings and social media pages speaks for itself. Maintaining this continuous positive customer feedback stream is a cornerstone of the business.
Our customers include:
Residential - retail - cafes - restaurants - bars - commercial kitchens - hotels - resorts - landscape contractors - promotional custom kitchen boards.
Continuous refinement and improvement
We never rest on our laurels. No matter how happy our customers tell us they are with their purchase, the continuous improvement of the business and the products is something that we hone every day.
Proudly 100% New Zealand Made
Tui Creek has always been headquartered in New Zealand, producing New Zealand made products. Whilst we frequently come under pressure to run our core manufacturing offshore - Tui Creek remains committed to genuine New Zealand made products and this remains one of our cornerstone points of difference.
Our points of difference
100% New Zealand made quality solid wood products.
International, but not corporate: How our customers experience TC matters to everyone in the business.
Eco-friendly: there is no rainforest wood in our business.
Solid wood products, nor is there any MDF in our business.
We sell digitally: shop from your home, delivered to your door.
Buy direct: from the people who made it.
Unmatched warranties: up to 20 years.
We carry spare parts: normally unavailable with imported products.
Finance: available for most product combinations over $300.
Quality assurance and warranties
All products are made to our rigorous QA standards and this attention to detail is behind why we provide product warranties of up to 20 years. Every product goes through a rigorous factory inspection including pre assembly and pre-shipping.
We apply the same rigorous QA standards to our wood fibre procurement.
Shipping
We offer door to door shipping across New Zealand and Australia.
All products are partially assembled to minimise final assembly and shipping.
Our custom shipping cartons hard cases ensures the risk of damage is minimised.
Whilst there is no reason why we cannot ship to other countries beyond Australia, wood products are normally subject to local agriculture importation regulations that should be validated prior to purchase.
Enironmental commitment
We use only eco-friendly New Zealand milled timbers.
There is no imported rainforest wood in our business.
All our packaging is paper derivative reusable or biodegradable.
Unless absolutely necessary we do not buy or use any plastic packaging.
